one interesting response we heard from another republican, senator lindsey graham, who thinks another paul is on the wrong track. >> the program he used overseas has made us safer. this idea we would use a drone to target american in a cafe in america is ridiculous. i think the american people need to understand the threat we face. >> reporter: if senator paul wanted to break senator strom thurmond's record for the longest filibuster ever, he would have needed to speak until five past noon today. he says he doesn't think filibustering will be a regular occurrence for him. bill: we shall see, right? really attracted a lot of attention this way. peter, thank leading our coverage on that. martha has more now. martha: indeed he did. he went on for almost 13 hours. here is the end of it. >> i thank you very much for the forbearance and i yield the floor. >> mr. president? >> senator from illinois. [applause] there will be order. there will be order. martha: applause at the end there. senator paul's filibuster now in the history books. how does it stack up? the most recent one was a little

there are senators like lindsey graham who are willing to put more revenue on the table in exchange for entitlement changes, a decade or more away from now. i think that you could see a deal where they do something on new revenues matched with entitlement cuts and then keep the $1.2 trillion covered by sequestration, but reorder them. decide that different programs are going to get cut, maybe more get cut in the out years, say not this year and next year but in the other eight years that are covered by sequestration. you could see that being part of a deal. >> yeah. putting it another way, we're really actually not that far from something that makes sense. if you got another 400 to $600 billion in revenues and you rearranged that $1.2 trillion to include something sensible on entitlements and restore some of these stupid discretionary cuts, you would be at $4 trillion of deficit reduction that a lot of us feel is not all we hoped for but enough to at least sleep at night. >> so where are we? break it down. >> we're right now at about $3.5 trillion of deficit reduction that we've achieve

particularly also want to thank both senator lindsey graham and senator mccain for coordinating the meeting. good. very candid discussion. and the discussion included not only sequester, the budget, but really where we focused is how do we bring people together in a bipartisan way to address the debt and deficit. and that means tax reform and that means entitlement reform the way we preserve social security and medicare but truly addresses the debt and deficit. >> so forgive rand paul if he doesn't have much to say today. did he a lot of talking yesterday. nearly 13 hours worth. >> i rise today to begin to filibuster john brennan's nomination for the cia. i will speak until i can no longer speak. i will speak as long as it takes. >> and speak he did. from 11:47 wednesday morning until well past midnight. the senator's attack focused squarely on the president's drone program and its use on on american citizens overseas and possibly here on u.s. soil. paul alone. he got help. a couple fellow senators took over for a brief time asking questions or reading tweets. but it was a tea party senator

. >> bill: of course john mccain and lindsey graham had to be there. you can't do anything without those two lovebirds. >> a big split in the media world. time-warner is spinning off its magazine division into a separate publicly-traded company called time incorporated. that, of course, includes "time" magazine along with "sports illustrated," instyle and style among others. people magazining about the number one in revenue the division only made up 12% of time-warner's revenue and was lag because of the change in people's media habits. >> bill: some of the magazines, i think are going to join "newsweek" pretty soon. no longer in print. yes, indeed. what a day yesterday. you know, i can't believe i'm going to say these words. and you would never believe you would hear me say these words. it may be the only time i will say the words bravo rand paul. i think he's crazy as a loon but he stepped up to the plate yesterday when we needed somebody to step up to the plate. rand paul, in a couple of days. i say bravo this morning because he did put on a filibus
